This spring and summer offer several dancing opportunities once the monthly dances are over. Northwest Folklife in Seattle over Memorial Day weekend devotes an entire hall to contra dancing. Ask at the local dances for ride sharing and lodging partners.

The big news is that Butte will host the National Folk Festival for the next three years. The 2008 festival is July 11-13. One venue will be devoted to participatory dance, not to mention a growing list of outstanding performers. They need volunteers. Find out more about everything at their web site - http://nationalfolkfestival.com/index.php

The BFS Contra Dance Series is held September through May (3rd Saturdays unless otherwise noted). Guest bands and callers provide hot tunes and great dances! All ages are welcome and partners are not required. Please wear grit free shoes without black soles to protect the dance floor. Helena dances are held just down the road, generally on the 2nd Saturday of the month. See below for both schedules.

In addition to the regular contra dance series, this year BFS is offering four family dances geared toward beginning dancers and families with chidren. These dances will be held 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm at the Senior Center, directly preceeding the regular dance. The emphasis will be on fun and success for everyone. Admission is $5.00 adults, $3.00 children ages 2-16, Kids under 2 free. $1 off for BFS members. (Does not include admission to the dance later in the evening.) All children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Print the Family Dance Schedule

International Folk Dancing and Scottish Country Dancing begins on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Join us for folk dancing from 7 pm to around 7:45 pm and Scottish dancing from 7:45 pm to 9:30 pm. We dance weekly, during the school year, in the loft of the SOB Barn on MSU campus (Garfield Street, behind the high rise dorms). Please bring clean, soft-soled shoes. No experience needed. No partners needed. (Bring water bottles as the only drinking fountain is downstairs.) Questions? Call 585-2287 or 586-6773. There will be dancing April 29th, May 6th and May 13th as well a a whole evening (7-9:00 pm) of International Folk Dancing on May 20th to finish out the year.

The regular Bozeman contra dance starts at 7:30 pm at the Bozeman Senior Center, 807 N. Tracy, unless otherwise noted. Admission is $7 members, $8 non-members. All welcome!
